GREEN DEATH

Green Death is a club created by most active fans of Zalgiris Kaunas. Their goal is to create and organize the best possible active support of their team on home and away games. However during the last few years that support has also spread beyond the basketball courts. Green Death (Zalioji Mirtis in Lithuanian) members began organizing and taking part in various public events aimed to help Zalgiris whenever it is necessary.

The organized movement of Zalgiris supporters started in 1987. These were the years of epic battles in USSR championship finals against CSKA Moscow. These battles and victories in three consecutive finals (1985-1987) combined with the start of nation‘s final fight for Lithuania‘s independence created a massive nationwide support for Zalgiris with thousands of Lithuanians traveling to games in Moscow. The most active young people started gathering in “E” stand of Kaunas Sports Hall and tried to help their team more. Some of them traveled to support the team throughout the USSR.

At the beginning of the 90s one fan made a flag with Green Death written on it and soon it became the name of whole supporters group.

Nowadays the club has more than 100 official members, however the number of fans involved in active support of Zalgiris is much greater. Green Death members organize the support at home and away games and try to involve all the other spectators. The fans travel to every game in Baltic states and to some European games too.
